Moral Decline in the United States Essay - 1526 Words

Many people try to argue that there is not a moral decline going on. I have heard things such as, â€Å"the ratio of moral people and unmoral people is the same as fifty years ago; as the population grows the amount of moral and unmoral people grow too.† And what about â€Å"life around us is changing, we just have different priorties and values which determine our morals.† Everyone has their own idea of morality, what’s right and wrong and what is causing this moral decline, if there even is one. I believe there is a moral decline in our country and 74 percent of Americans agree with me according to the Cultural and Media Institute. Not only do people feel it is a decline, but the Public Agenda Survey reported that 61 percent of adults are†¦show more content†¦Why has extreme poverty in the US reached its highest point in at least three decades (McClatchy Newspapers, Feb. 22) Why is suicide the third-leading cause of death for 15- to 24-year-olds (accor ding to the CDC)? Our country has fallen away from Jesus Christ. The foundation on which we were built has been destroyed, leaving us with a broken house. This nation is not living under God. The Bible, in which should determine our values and thus morals has been ignored making our nation morally corrupt. As we continue to let others, such as our peers and the media, determine our self-worth, social status, priorties, and boundries they will continue to direct us in the ways immorality. We need to start thinking for our selves and getting back to basics. As a Christian what I have observed in my school and in my generation is that youth do not understand what it is to be a Christian and disciple of Christ. There are those who do not have a personal relationship with Christ nor understand what being a true Christian. Then there are those who claim to be Christians but continue to live their lives with the rest of the world. And at last those who have truly dedicated their lives to C hrist and have a personal relationship with Him. Group Dynamics Observations for Internship Field Experience Group dynamics are the forces that emerge and take shape as members interact with each other over the life of a group. These forces are dynamic and include not only in the moment interactions, but also the influences of what members bring to the group from the larger social environment. In my recent role as Events Coordinator at the Spyglass Ridge Winery, I observed the interplay of personality traits and group interactions first hand. My internship field experience illustrated a wide range of group dynamics in action. My manager Tomas Webb and his wife Tammy have worked diligently to build a company with a high level of employee/employer cohesiveness. The wine maker (Dana Wright), my fellow event planner (Gail Heintzelman), and I all functioned within a close-knit environment. These standards are known for proposing evidence-based improvement strategies for dealing with gaps between best practice outcomes and current practice outcomes affecting patients across communities. The Standard 3 of NSQHS relates to prevention and control of healthcare associated infections. As per the standard, clinical leaders and senior managers working in healthcare settings are to implement systems for preventing and managing healthcare associated infections. These strategies are to be communicated to the entire workforce for achieving proper outcomes. The standard has the underlying principle of preventing patients from acquiring infections that are preventable in the first place. Research indicates that HAI can be effectively managed when evidence-based strategies are applied. Evidence that the issue is worth solving Healthcare associated infections (HAI), also known as nosocomial infections, are those infections that are acquired by patients admitted to a healthcare setting for receiving any form of treatment. Such infection, which are preventable, include surgical site infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central line-associated bloodstream infections, and ventilator-associated pneumonia. HAI has been found to occur in almost al kinds of care settings such as acute care hospitals, outpatient care, long-term care facilities and ambulatory surgical settings (Sievert et al. 2013). According to Loveday et al. (2014), infectious organisms change their characteristics rapidly over time, and this leads to major challenges for infection control and management within healthcare settings. Of major concern is the transmission of bacteria which are resistant to antibacterial agents, such as Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). Challenges also emerge while combating diseases caused by Clostridium difficile and multi-resistant Gram-negative bacteria such as those producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) or carbapenemases. As opined by Pfaller et al. (2017) Australian healthcare settings are always in demand to provide accurate and best quality care services to patients who present evolving needs. Due to the rising patient population and drastic variations in comorbidities, large patient numbers receive treatment in close proximity to each other. Greater demands are placed on the healthcare workforce to address the needs of the patients adequately. The patient population have a direct association as a project since their health condition and wellbeing would be changing for the betterment. It is to be expected that with the project in practice, patients would be able to combat the risks of suffering HAI in the long term. Successively, there would be a positive impact on the family members as well. The funding body would be allocating the required resources, they play an active role in this context. The clinicians are accountable for the clinical outcomes of the patients, and thus their input is valuable (Lewis et al. 2017). It would be pivotal to communicate the necessary information about the project in a timely manner. CPI Tool The Clinical Practice Improvement project would fundamentally differ from research in that the project would include changes in the form of interventions delivered, adoption of new strategies and role changes among professionals. The CPI project aiming at making positive and praiseworthy changes in the processes of preventing HAI for enabling effective outcomes would make the use of the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model. The PDSA model, or tool, has been widely accepted as a proper rapid cycle improvement tool. The unique feature of the model is that it is cyclic in nature in impacting and assessing changes. The purpose of using this tool is to establish a causal or functional relationship between changes and outcomes (Chartier et al. 2017)). In the first stage of planning, a detailed and accurate evidence-based planning is to be done. Changes are to be brought about based on this planned guideline outlined. The next step involves implementing the set strategies into practice. This is to be done with the help of the concerned stakeholders within the care setting. It is to be ensured that all members of the organisation are communicated with the necessary information about the impact of the change on them. Successively, the change that is to be brought about is to be analysed, reviewed and documented. It is necessary to compare different sets of data collected through appropriate data collection methods against relevant estimates. Further, necessary actions are to be taken based on the information gathered about the progress of the project. If the goals are met, then actions are to be taken accordingly. The plan can be endorsed, and further actions can be taken for renewing it. Modifications can be brought about eventually is required to suit the needs in future. The PDSA cycle would thereby act as the plan of excellence for addressing the selected clinical challenge (Reed and Card 2016). Summary of proposed intervention Jackson et al. (2012) had highlighted that behaviour of nurses is crucial in preventing HAIs across settings. Clinical staffs, including the nurses, are to demonstrate maximum adherence with the guidelines set in place for upholding the protection of safety of the patients. Research further points out that a lack of understanding about HAI among professionals leads to the high rate of the same.For this rationale, it would be necessary to enhance the level of knowledge the individuals have. This would be done through the dissemination of information booklets within the setting at all levels of employees (Polin, Denson and Brady 2012). According to Weber et al. (2013), maintenance of hygiene within the care setting is of utmost importance for reducing HAI rate. The setting would need to initiate practices of maintaining hygiene by using effective infection control agents such as disinfectants and sanitisers. Further, two most crucial practices would be adequate hand sanitisation and use of personal protective equipment (Carling 2013). Assistance would be provided to ensure that nurses and other professionals use hand sanitisers in a more frequent manner, especially before coming in contact with a patient and after finishing caring for the same individual. The care setting would have adequate provision for personal protective equipment such as gloves, aprons, masks. Anderson et al. (2012) brought into limelight the fact that use of such equipment helps in preventing spreading of infectious agents among individuals to a considerable extent. The next step would be to implement the No Touch method of surface disinfection. The respective wards of the care setting would be made disinfected through Ultra-Violet rays and hydrogen peroxides, whichever suitable and available. These are known to have bactericidal effects. In this regard Moore, Muzslay and Wilson (2013) stated that the mentioned method is more effective than those methods that involve touching the surface for disinfecting it. Barriers Lack of motivation of and encouragement might pose as major barriers in implementing the outlined strategies (Leis and Shojania 2016). Professionals have been found to lack self-motivation in changing the process of care delivery, and thus it would be crucial to understanding their concerns for addressing them. Different motivational factors are to be drawn in to guide the workers in a positive direction. Readiness from the managers of the organisation might also be a barrier to the implementation of change. There might be lack of eagerness to support the changes. Additionally, their responses might be negative under certain circumstances. Lack of funds and availability of resources might be the other barriers to implementing change. Sustainability of the change also depends on the mentioned factors. In shortage of resources and funds, there might be a gap generated in the flow of adherence to change (Guintlo et al. 2016). Lastly, cultural barriers are noteworthy then individuals form diverse background work in collaboration with each other. Nurses might be showcasing resistance to the new strategies since they might be against their cultural preferences (Foley and Vale 2017). Evaluation of project The project aims at preventing and controlling HAI within the care setting in an effective manner. The outcomes of this would be measured through rate of incidence of HAI among different wards. Data would be collected over a period of six months. Subsequently, the data would be compared with the previously collected data on the rate of HAI prior to implementation of change. Given its complexity, users, children and adults, without programming knowledge could not build their robots and make them work correctly and that frustrated them, so that meant Lego was facing a drop in sales. The first step to solve this problem was to seek advice from the outside. They got prototypes mountable in 20 minutes and easy to use for people without computer and programming skills. Later, they took a real leap electing 5 people from their community of consumers, 5 people with experience in computer science, programming and design and were fans of Lego. They worked on a new prototype of Lego Mindstorm, but were not paid with money but with advantages in the purchase of new products that were not yet on the market and free tickets to LEGOLAND. In addition to that, 100 users formed a community of developers. Shortly after the release of Mindstorm, a hacker revealed the programming code and hung it on the network. Lego then saw a new opportunity to increase the added value of their products to share with the world some of their knowledge. Another example of Open Innovation is the website that created LEGO, Lego Factory, where people can customize and design their own toy and buy it. Also, people can upload their designs and if they are good, Lego makes them to sell to the public. And its a very good method of developing the user loyalty. 1 Organization of innovation For the manufacture of new products LEGO implanted a mechanism known as LEGO Development Process (LDP). This mechanism became a cumbersome bureaucratic mechanism because the workers had to fill in many forms, and each product took a long time to arrive to the market and only a few products were finally launched to the market. This process was modified and simplified, steps were removed, and the results to be obtained at each stage of the innovation process were clarified. The company has split its innovation efforts into eight distinct areas, from product development to business model innovation. It divides responsibility for them across four areas of the firm: the functional groups, the Concept Lab, Product and Marketing Development, and a unit called Community, Education, and Direct. To implement the new innovation process and manage and coordinate innovation across the entire company, LEGO created an Executive Innovation Governance Group. This committee determines innovation goals and strategy, decides the portfolio of innovation projects that the LEGO Group will take on, coordinates efforts, it delegates authority, allocates resources, and monitors the development process through the LDP review points. This matrix identifies four areas in which innovation can take place within the company product, business, communication, and the process as well as the innovativeness of the improvements. In completing the matrix is achieved coordinating innovation efforts and identify where they need to focus resources. Matrix also used innovation as a guideline for restructuring the company and clarifies specific innovation responsibilities for each department. This allows each group to have greater authority and responsibility in achieving their goals. At first we had a hard time getting started and trying to figure out what to write in the project and which models to use. After some discussion and debating we made a rough draft of the table of contents and divided it so we each had an area to focus on and also decided to do a little bit of homework each day so we do not fall behind. After dividing the different parts of the paper we could decide to stay at the school and work or go home. Some went home and some stayed a little longer. Wednesday October 5th We met at 10 o’clock this morning and started reading what everyone did at home. Everyone did a really good job and had a lot to share. We now have 17. 000 keystrokes and are almost done with the paper, so all we need is just a few last parts of the paper and all the appendices, and for everyone to read through the paper so we can do the power point. That is what we plan to start tomorrow. This day was a really good day. We worked very well together as a team and listened to each other and tried very hard to understand and explain if someone had a hard time with the language or something else. Thursday October 6th We met at 10 o’clock to finish the paper and start our executive summery and power point. We all had some different ideas of what to write in the executive summery and we discussed a little bit and tried to put everyone’s ideas into it. Hannah-Rebecca worked on the layout of the paper and the power point and the others worked on the summery and the grammar in the paper. Friday October 7th Today we just finished the last grammar corrections in the paper, the table of contents and the last touch to the power point. Some members of the group had some jobs they did all through the week. Hannah-Rebecca worked on the layout of the paper and the power point and did a very fine job on both. She is the creative one in the group, and Laura and Maria C did all the grammar and spelling corrections in the paper. It can be a great way to make more money and have more responsibility at your job.But what options are there for nurse practitioner schooling? How long does it take to become a nurse practitioner? How do you apply, and what do you do once you begin a nurse practitioner program? In this guide, we answer those questions and give you all the information you need to know about nurse practitioner school. What Are Nurse Practitioner Schools? To become a nurse practitioner, you’ll need to get one of two graduate degrees: a Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).In this section we analyze both of the degrees and give advice on which program you should pursue. Master’s of Science in Nursing Degree The MSN is a master’s program, and the coursework will often be similar to the coursework required to become an RN, although more specialized and at a higher level. You’ll learn the skills needed for patient care and case management so that you’re prepared to handle patients on your own and prescribe medication (if the state you live in allows NPs to write prescriptions). There are MSN programs for all the main nurse practitioner specializations, such as neonatal, family, psychiatric, and women’s health nurse practitioner specializations, among others.The coursework is a mixture of core classes all nurse practitioners take, courses in your field of specialization, and clinical practicum hours. Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree The DNP program covers all the information and skills you’ll learn in an MSN program, but you’ll take additional courses that teach you more about leadership, health care policy, and using evidence-based care in clinical practice, among other areas. According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), all DNP programs must have courses that prepare students in the following eight core areas: Scientific underpinnings for practice Organizational and systems leadership for quality improvement and systems thinking Clinical scholarship and analytical methods for evidence-based practice Information systems/technology and patient care technology for the improvement and transformation of health care Health care policy for advocacy in health care Interprofessional collaboration for improving patient and population health outcomes Clinical prevention and population health for improving the nation’s health Advanced nursing practice DNP students must also complete an original scholarly work, often known as the DNP project, that shows they can apply the knowledge they learned to an actual issue affecting nursing. The DNP is a doctorate and a terminal degree, and it provides a broader area of skills than an MSN degree. In addition to learning the skills needed to be an effective nurse practitioner, those who graduate from a DNP program also are better prepared for leadership positions because they have more background in health care policy and better understand how hospitals and other healthcare facilities are run. Which Nurse Practitioner Program Should You Do? Both programs will qualify you to be a nurse practitioner, so you can really do either. Additionally, there isn’t much of a salary difference between nurse practitioners who have their MSN versus those with their DNP (the average annual salary of nurse practitioners across the country is just over $100,000.) MSN programs are shorter and are typically offered by more schools, including more online programs, which can make balancing school and other commitments easier.However, if you’re looking to achieve the top level of nursing education and/or learn more leadership and management skills, a DNP is the better option.Additionally, the AACN recommends that nurses hoping to become nurse practitioners get their DNP instead of their MSN, but they accept both as proper qualification. The choice depends on which program you think works better for your schedule and career plans. Also, you get your MSN, you can later go back and get your DNP in a two-year program if you later decide that’s what you want. How Long Do Nurse Practitioners Go to School? How long does it take to become a nurse practitioner? This answer depends both on your background and which NP degree you want to get, though you can become a nurse practitioner in as little as two years. The length of the two NP programs are as follows: Master’s of Science in Nursing: 2 (sometimes 3) years Doctor of Nursing Practice: 3-4 years However, you need to be a registered nurse (RN) to begin nurse practitioner school. If you already have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) and have worked for several years as an RN, then you can go directly into either of the graduate programs. If, on the other hand, you don’t have a background in nursing, nurse practitioner schooling will take significantly longer.A BSN degree can take four years, although if you already have a bachelor’s degree in another field, there are often shorter programs that only take about two to three years, while an Associate’s Degree in Nursing usually takes two years to complete. This means it could take you up to eight years to become a nurse practitioner, depending on which combination of degrees you get. There are also a few programs that combine either a BSN or an ADN with a nurse practitioner program (often known as â€Å"bridge programs†), which will take less time to complete. These are often about five years, although the exact length of each program will vary based on the school. How Do You Get Into Nurse Practitioner Schools? As mentioned above, to apply to nurse practitioner schools, you need to be an RN with either a BSN or (sometimes) an ADN degree.There are a few nurse practitioner schools that accept students without a nursing background and offer a combined BSN and NP program, but these are uncommon and will take significantly longer than standard nurse practitioner schooling. If you don’t have a background in nursing, you will likely have to complete prerequisites in several course areas before you can begin a joint BS/RN program. Prerequisites will often be in the following areas: Biology Biochemistry Chemistry Human biology Microbiology Nutrition Psychology Statistics If you are an RN, you will also need to have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) exam administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) (which you’d need to pass anyway to work as an RN). Most nurse practitioner programs also require you to have some experience working as a nurse before you start your nurse practitioner degree. One to two years of experience is generally the minimum amount required, but, on average, nurses have ten years of experience before they go to school to become nurse practitioners. You’ll need solid grades, but they don’t need to be as high as they would be if you were applying to med school. Generally, a college GPA of 3.0 or higher is enough to get you into many nurse practitioner programs. Your grades in human biology/anatomy and other classes related to nursing will be the most important. Applying to nurse practitioner school is like a combination of applying to college and applying to a job. Similar to applying to other schools, you'll need to submit transcripts, letters of recommendation, GRE test scores, and personal statements. However, like a job, you'll also need to provide a resume and contact information for references, and you'll likely have at least one interview per school during which you'll discuss your employment history. What Do You Do at a Nurse Practitioner School? Many nurse practitioners describe nurse practitioner school as similar to getting their RN, but faster-paced and with less hand-holding than you may have experienced in undergrad.You’ll generally divide your time between three areas: core classes, classes that focus on the specialtyyou’ve chosen, and clinicals. The core classes will typically focus on issues all nurse practitioners face or need to know how to deal with, such as using evidence-based practices, advanced nursing practices, statistics, pharmacology, and community health. Specialized classes will vary depending on which area you choose to focus in. There are many specialties nurse practitioner students can choose, including acute care, family medicine, neonatal care, oncology, psychiatry, and women’s health.You’ll also typically have to complete 500-800 clinical hours to graduate. Because of the inequality of wealth in America, the poor become very poor and the rich become very rich. Likewise, when congressional representatives run for election the price is very high and they need support to be elected. This support is more likely to come from people who have enough money compared to the poor and middle class people who are concerned about their own needs. Both of these aspects will help uncover and answer the burning question regarding our legislators. Pertaining to the Trouble Asset Relief Program (TARP), better known as the bailout, the infusion of money was supposed to prevent large banks from going under and losing everything. It started in 2007 when many banks had loaned out mortgages to people who defaulted, or could not pay back. Soon losses were obvious and many knew of the situation but tried to cover up the problem. This made many banks insolvent in the period between late 2007 and 2008. The TARP was written to prevent a complete economic collapse caused by side effects of banks bankrupting. However, from the point of view of legislators, this helped the rich bankers who lost a lot on their poor investment choices leaving out the poor people that had been affected. Both conservatives and liberals did not appreciate the bill. For conservatives, the bill went against their belief in free market. For liberals, the bill benefited wealthy people

The article talks about how student learning is made better through the use of technological tools and accessories. As an educational administrator, I would use this study to inform my teachers the importance of teaching through technology. I would make sure that my school has enough resources to afford sophisticated technological tools to aid the learning process in classrooms. I would arrange computer labs and assistants in my school so that students may be able to polish their computer-based learning.

Outline how legislation, policies and procedures relating to heath Essay The Health and Safety at work act is a piece of legislation that is responsible for convering all health and safety in britain. However, the health and safety manager at individual establishments are responsible for carrying out the act and making sure everything is in cohearance with the piece of legislation. HASAWA influences health and social care in many different ways such as the protection it now gives to employers and employees, before this piece of legislation was made people had no legal protection whilst they were at work. HASAWA influences health and social as it tells the owner of a business, or establishment, what they need to be doing to make sure they are working in accordance to the legislation. Everyone has the duty to comply with the act, this includes employers, employees, trainees, self employed, manufacturers, suppliers ect. This legislation keeps people safe as it provides people with the instuctions to make their establishments safe for themselves and their employees. HASAWA tells owners to carry out a risk assessment which points out the hazards that need to be changed and/or fixed. An example of legislation influencing a health and care setting is The Manual Handling Operations regualtion. MHOR is always thought to be the last resort, and only if there is a possibility of injury. Legislation tells emplyers and employees how to move and handle things appropriately and when it is and isn’t appropriate to move and handle things. Employers must carry out risk assessments before opening a business to find if there are any faults or dangers to the customers or employees. There must be a health and safety policy written specifically for that setting and someone must be employed to be in charge of health and safety. Everything in the establishment must be insured incase accidents occur. Employees must take responsibility of your own and other peoples health and  safety and not do anything that could cause someones health and safety to be put at risk. This influences the setting as it keeps people working or entering the setting safe and gives them the appropri ate instructions to keep them as safe as possible. It keeps people safe as it provides instructions and regulations that must be followed to keep everyone safe, and if everyone follows these regulations and instructions then their safety and health will be safe. Food Safety Act 1990 The Food Safety Act 1990 is a frame for all food legislation in Britain. Responsibilities for food businesses include: Ensuring you do not include anything in food or remove anything from food making it a hazard to the health of people consuming it. Advertising food in a way that isn’t misleading or false. The food safety act influences health in many different ways, it gives environmental health the right to inspect the quality of food, the place it is prepared and the place it is served and if it is not up to standard they have the power to close the establishment, in extreme cases. Before the establishment is closed down they are served a notice of improvement or be temporaraly closed until the standards are back up. Without the Food Safety Act food would be able to be served to you in any conditon, and if you became ill from that food you could not retain any form of compensation because there is no legislation telling the establishment how to cook, prepare and serve food safely. Employers and employees must make sure food is safe to eat, make sure they don’t add, remove or treat food in a way that makes it harmful to eat, make sure the quality of the food is the same as it is advertised or expected by the customer, Keep track of where the food was bought, if unsafe food is discovered it needs to be recorded and removed and tell people why the food has been recalled. There must be hand wash at all sinks and hands must be washed before touching food, after touching food, after using the toilet, after touching animals, after touching your own skin and hair, after sneezing or coughing and after touching raw food. Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 RIDDOR is the piece of legislation that states all injuries, diseases, illnesses need to be reported to either the health and safety executive or  the local council. RIDDOR is put in place so that health and safety executives can look at where the risks occur and can take steps to prevent them. There are of course only certain injuries and dangerous occuurences that need to be reported, things such as violence at work, gas leaks, injuries that have occured during work or in the work place. RIDDOR also benefits people who have been injured at work and want compensation, health and safety executives follow up on the case and evaluate if the acdicent was because of the employee being put at risk or if they didnt follow procedure. The employers responsibility is to maintain the safety of their employees customers and they have the responsibility to report if an employee or customer has been injured whilst at wor k or in the establishment. Without RIDDOR, injuries caused in the workplace could not be claimed upon and the hazard could not be found and removed, if the hazard isn’t removed then people will be continuously be getting injured. The incidents need to be written in an accident book and should inlude the date and time of injury, the name of the worker, a description of the accident, action taken and the result. Slips, Trips, Falls Slips, trips and falls are the most common causes of major injuries in the work place. Most trips are caused by uneven or un-maintained floors, and slips are usually cased by wet floors. However, slips, trips and falls can be prevented if the right preventions and procedures are put into place and followed. The employers responsibilities are to make sure the floors serface is even and maintained, decreasing the risk of trips, all obstructions in hallways and on floors are removed and stored properly, this also decreases the risk of trips. All spillages should be immediately cleaned up using the appropriate method, usually a cloth or mop, and a wet floor sign should be appointed if needed, this decreases the risk of slips. Staffs responsibilities are to wear safe and sensible footwear which have good grip, and they must also keep their work stations clear and tidy, also both staff and service users have the responsibility to report obstructions and spillages if not recognised. The pol icy put in place ifluences health and care as it prevents the risks of slips, trips and falls, without it there would be no procedures to influence staff to remove the risks, such as obsticles that may cause trips. If staff, employees and the service users don’t follow the policies put in place then the risks of accidents will be raised, and if an accident does occur and they haven’t followed the procedures they were responsible to follow then they can’t claim any form of compensation.
